MPCF-Legazpi hosts CHEd RO V provincial consultative conference

The MPCF-Legazpi hosted on March 12, 2012 the CHED Rregional Office (RO) V Provincial (Albay and Catanduanes) Consultative Conference. The conference was attended by 59 higher education institutions (HEIs) from various municipalities of Albay and Catanduanes.

The one-day conference sought to address issues and concerns faced by HEIs as providers of quality higher education to the Bicol region’s youths.

The CHED RO V Regional Director, Dr. Freddie T. Bernal, led his supervisors in discussing the guidelines on the operation of HEIs.

Dr. Teresa G. de Alban, who discussed CMO No.18, S. 2011, emphasized that HEIs offering BS Nursing with 30% or lower passing rate in the nursing board examination should expect for the immediate phasing out of their nursing program. On the other hand, she said, HEIs with 30% passing rate should not be complacent because they would still be monitored based on the following standards: dean, faculty members, valid/effective MOA with qualified hospitals/center including nursing arts laboratory, and professional nursing books and subscription to the required local and foreign nursing schools. Non-compliance will result in the phasing out of their nursing program.

Other supervisors who spoke were Dr. Jenny V. Romero, who talked about the National Service Training Program; Engr. Janet E. Naag, on the increase in tuition and other fees; Engr. Elma E. Naz, on Electronic Verification System of Academic Records; Dr. Manuel Mendoza, on the Agriculture and Fisheries Education Programs; Mrs. Gemma Margallo, on information pertaining to BSHRM/HM, Tourism, Travel Management and Office Administration and guidelines for students’ internship abroad; Dr. Dennis R. Rebueno on Business Education, Criminology and Legal Education; and Dr. Jeane Paulette Salalima-Go, humanities and communication.

The representatives of HEIs were presented with souvenirs from the administration of MPCF, Rawis, Legazpi City and praised the host school for the hospitality.
